Our topic of research is the slums in Manila, Philippines. After doing some research, our team decided that poverty, poor building structures, disease, overcrowding, and sanitation were the major issues in these areas. We ultimately concluded that the greatest issue to focus on was the sanitation, specifically the amount of filth piled up all over the streets. We noticed that the diseases that affected the population, such as Dengue Fever, was being spread by mosquito, which were attracted by to the trash. In addition, the issues dealing with the structure and overcrowding could not be fixed without having the streets clean and open for development. Therefore, the pile up of trash bags and human waste was the best issue to come up with a solution for because it would ultimately help improve the other conditions through positive development.
